Freedom is one word to describe what traveling offers. Do what you want and don’t worry about other people’s schedules. But this isn’t always the case when your hotel is way over budget, your dad calls you every hour along the way, and your friends keep telling you they’ll plan something soon, but it never actually happens.
Perhaps the problem is that we’re not quitting traveling, but facing the obstacles that prevent us from doing so.
Here are some of the obstacles regarding solo travel and what you should do about them.
1. You Know That Hotel Room Is Not an Investment This Year

You find a hotel that you want to stay at. You’re about to book it, but then you look at the price again. Your lips go down more than ever.
When you travel alone, you’re the one who has to pay for everything. On your trip, you’ll have to cover the cost of the hotel, transportation, and almost every snack and meal you purchase.
We see why it’s more feasible not to go, but you probably should. Book a hostel or find a cheaper way to travel this year. You don’t have to get on a plane and go cross-country to escape the comfort of home.
2. Safety Always Must Be in the Group Chat

You’ve decided to leave town, but then the feeling sets in. Will I make it to the hotel alive? Is the area you’ve chosen safe? What if the worst happens? These are questions many solo travelers ask themselves.
Going alone can be very motivating, but if you’re doing a long-term solo trip, it can be intimidating. It isn’t always easy to find the best neighborhoods or safe paths. Knowing before you leave will help you every time. Research your locations, and make sure your hotel or homestay is the right choice. Know the locations you’re traveling to and keep that information saved securely on your mobile device.
Make sure you plan your trip around whichever times you feel safest. Not everything has to be planned out. Sometimes, just knowing and being ready is enough.
3. The Internet Made All Trips Into Blockbuster Movies

You’re aimlessly scrolling through social media when suddenly, you stumble upon the most gorgeous place! The mountains, the pretty streets, all the cafés, anything you can think of.
But you’re waiting there for the bus, sweating in the sun and trying to figure out whether you took the right bus.
There are both positive and negative sides to social media. We want to show others our experiences and see the most beautiful things they do or see. We spend so many hours trying to take pictures just like the beautiful pictures made by others, hoping others will want to see our pictures.
Enjoy your journey. Take pictures of the things you want to, but don’t feel like you need a picture of everything. Take pictures of the food you ate, the sights you saw, and the people you met. Don’t stress about making your trip picture-perfect. It will be perfect no matter what.
4. Planning a Solo Vacation Feels Like a Secondary Job

You just wanted to go on a little weekend getaway, but the more hotel websites you look at, the less interested you become. You have found six perfect hotels to stay at. Now you have to plan the whole weekend. How will you get there? What will you do? What sights are worth seeing? Now you have to read reviews. One says it’s terrible; another says it’s the best thing in the world.
Suddenly, you’re back to square one.
When taking a solo trip, it’s best not to plan too much. Choose where you want to go, what hotel you want to stay at, and how you’ll get there. Then you can decide what you want to see and do.
Our pro tip: That’s enough planning for now. Don’t try to plan everything! Go with it and be surprised.
5. Everybody Should Go There, Nobody Has Time

You already know the place everyone is talking about, the place they’re bringing everyone to. You already wanted to go there, but you didn’t have the time or money. Now you’re ready, but you realize that it will cost you more than you thought. You also took some time to see what your friends are talking about, and now you know. You want to go, but you realize that you never have the time, or you find that somebody can’t go.
Traveling with friends is very fun, but you didn’t expect how hard it would be to plan. Everyone has their own schedules, budgets, and ideas. You’re ready, but it’s hard to convince your friends. You’re all waiting for everyone to have the time, and you end up not going at all.
Go for yourself!
If you don’t want to travel cross-country on your own, ride around in your city or head to the same club for a weekend. That's the beauty of solo travel: You are your own master. You don’t have to wait for everyone to be available.
6. Heading Alone Will Still Not Always Feel Like Everywhere Else

The pictures have come out great. You’re in this amazing place, just waiting to share it with someone. You find an amazing restaurant and want to tell someone about it. You see something funny and want to share it with a friend.
These feelings don’t mean solo travel isn’t good. It just means you’re not always going to be surrounded by other people. You don’t need to be alone all the time. It’s okay to want some company. Even though these places seem to be the best places to go by yourself, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll always feel that way.
You can still enjoy yourself when you travel by yourself. If you want to be around people, there are many places where you can meet new people. Hostels and walking tours are also places where you can meet new people and make new friends while traveling.
When staying at homestays, you can meet new people and experience the culture.
You don’t always have to make friends in these places. If you want to explore by yourself, that is fine. There are no problems, and there are so many opportunities.
The Other Side of the Story
Having said all of this, traveling alone isn’t always as fun as it seems. You could miss buses, make last-minute plans, or do something that you didn’t want to do. You could sometimes wish someone were there with you.
You don’t always need a big amount of money to go traveling, and you don’t always need to go with a group.
Go on a short trip and see what it’s like.
